About Us
The Roots of Our Mission
The beginnings date back to 2023 when the founder of the Dr. Manfred Jäger Educational Center, Christian Jäger, collaborated with Walter Lutschinger of the Desert Flower Foundation to address the urgent need for improved educational opportunities in Sierra Leone.
Our namesake and father of the founder, Dr. Manfred Jäger, was a passionate advocate for education, committed to promoting equal opportunities and social justice. Inspired by his legacy and driven by the deep belief that education is a powerful tool for changing the world, we have made it our mission to continue and realize this vision.
From humble beginnings, the first project in Sierra Leone has grown into an educational institution that welcomes 650 children. Our journey has been marked by challenges and successes, and each step forward has strengthened our belief that education is essential for a better future.
Why Sierra Leone?
With a population of about 7.8 million, Sierra Leone is one of the more densely populated regions in West Africa. Despite its rich natural resources, the country faces significant economic challenges and one of the highest poverty rates in the world. Over 60% of the population lives below the poverty line, especially in rural areas. Sierra Leone also has one of the highest child mortality rates and lowest life expectancies in the world. Education and healthcare are inaccessible to many.
These challenges highlight the urgent need for targeted development projects to improve living conditions in Sierra Leone.
Our Vision
Our vision is a world where every child in Sierra Leone has the opportunity to reach their full potential through education. We dream of a future where education is seen as a fundamental right, opening doors to life-changing opportunities for every child. We see ourselves as pioneers for a new generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators who will transform their communities for the better.
Our Mission
The mission of the Dr. Manfred Jäger Educational Center is to promote sustainable development in Sierra Leone through high-quality educational opportunities and innovative teaching methods. We are committed to ensuring that our students not only learn but also learn to think critically and question. Our educational approach is holistic – we promote not only academic excellence but also social skills and ethical awareness. By making education accessible and encouraging our students to think critically, we actively contribute to breaking the cycles of poverty and inequality.
Additionally, we advocate against female genital mutilation and for education, equality, and social progress.
In everything we do, we strive to honor and continue Dr. Manfred Jäger’s legacy of love and commitment to education. We are convinced that by strengthening education today, we can change the world for the better tomorrow.
